Magic Fairy Dust

When I am finishing up a painting, I love to add a little special sparkle. Nothing too flashy- something that settles in and adds interest. How about some fairy dust?

That is what I call Pearl Ex Pigment. For a long time, I couldn't figure out how to satisfactorily get it sealed into a painting. Once I began adding a thick coat of Liquitex Pouring Medium, I knew that I had something. The powder settles down into the medium and looks fabulous. Here is a close up, but really, photos can't do it justice- you'll just have to try it yourself!

Pearl Ex comes in many different colors. I adore Aztec Gold and Macropearl. They go with everything I paint, but I have a set of colors, and I try to mix it up. Here are the materials that you need.

First I spread on the Pouring Medium- nice and thick. I spread it with a Bondo Spreader. Whoops, another item for the material list.

Then I simply take a soft brush, dip it in the powder, and tap in on. Here is that action shot!

Wait until the medium dries, and you are done. Magic fairy dust!
